NO REST FOR THE WICKED alpha core / march 12th / 11:07 pm Tobias quivered slightly as he looked at his old work building. There was now a girl by his side but it was not comforting to be at the building he had left behind. The underage refugee might die tonight. Tobias might die tonight. It didn't truly matter, they came tonight for answers. The girl they were saving would have answers. Emilia might have been in this very building if she had not escaped her parents fate. Morgan. She had to get out alive. It was the only true way to succeed. If he was committing treason he would have a good reason to do it. He had doubts. He truly did. Tobias told Emilia to wait outside. His hand in his lab coat pocket he strolled up to the front doors. Using the front doors wasn't suspicious. If he was going to get to the yellow floor he had to do this carefully. He could not just pull out his pistol that he maybe used once or twice. He knew he was weak. He had to get the upper hand.
Walking into the large lobby Tobias didn't really focus on the details of the entrance. To be fair he didn't plan on staying there long. He knew a little of the security system and knew there would be too much hassle from guards if the building went into lockdown. He had to kill the guards quickly and he had to do it when he had the upper hand. Two guards turned to look at him as he walked across the lobby. The other guard continued to patrol the far end of the room. Clearing his throat as approached the desk the guard behind it looked up at him with a stern expression. Toby was going to kill this man. He knew there were others here to help him. They would deal with the other two guards. Emilia should be coming in soon and there was even a woman who seemed like she knew whats he was doing. The three of them could handle this. Not really noticing anything out of the ordinary he cleared his voice to ask the guard a question. The front desk had a couple monitors on it. Toby didn't appear on any of them. Camera's didn't watch the lobby, the guards did. "Sorry sir but I was here last week with a complaint from the director and the problem still hasn't been fixed. The power flow on the fourth floor keeps surging out when the procedure is underway which puts the patients at an increased risk of heart failure."
The guard seemed to ease slightly. He knew what he was saying. He had the upper hand. He was not seen as someone about to kill but a lost lab technician. They were wrong. He pulled out the pistol in a swift movement. The trigger was pulled as the bang rung loud and clear. This was point blank, he just hoped he had hit the right place. He had maybe heartbeats to jump over the counter and duck for cover. He had aimed for the face. Even if they wore some kind of protection the face was always exposed. He had to save bullets.
ACTIONS: Point blank shot at Guard behind desk. Plans to jump over desk.

| Emilia stood by her ally, immobile and silent as the pair scanned the building towering before them. What they were about to do would have never crossed her mind just a few days ago, but now it seemed the only thing to do. Had even the smallest of details gone wrong with her escape, Mia could very well be in the same situation as the woman they were here to rescue. Her desire for revenge had outgrown her desire to do the right thing. She glanced down and saw the bulge in Tobias's lab coat where his gun lay. Emilia was well aware that people were going to die tonight. She was armed with only a steak knife but knew what to do with it should the need arise. It wasn't particularly sharp but it could easily tear the soft flesh of a government goon's neck.
Tobias directed her to wait outside for the time being and she obliged. She watched intently as he strode forward and pushed open the door, disappearing into the bright lights of the research building. She began making her way towards the side entrance and stopped just outside. Through the window she could see Tobias speaking with the guard. Any moment now he would draw his gun and their lives would once again be in danger. She had been told there would be 3 guards patrolling and sure enough each could be clearly seen from where she stood. The two men in the front seemed occupied with Tobias so she instead focussed her attention on the one in the back. Emilia squeezed the handle of her blade, ready to charge the third guard if it looked like Tobias had lost control of the situation. He didn't exactly look the type to take on three trained men at once. As the seconds drew on she could feel her palms getting ever sweatier as she anxiously awaited the deafening blast of the gun. Sure enough, Tobias tensed slightly before raising his arm and discharging a bullet into the guards skull. A rush of adrenaline filled her veins as the shriek of the gun broke the silence of the night. She was ready.

i'm vulnerable, so vulnerable, i am not a robot Mr. Wright had been very convincing.
Though in Elise's case, it didn't really take much convincing. More like fudging the facts a little, convince her she was doing it for the greater good. In fact, he hadn't even needed to provide incentive. He was worried, and Elise wanted to soothe his worries. She'd seen Morgan once or twice in her life, she was a sweet girl (but everyone was pretty sweet in her eyes, except for the ones who were mean, those were just mean).
Elise knew nothing of what went on inside in the genetics building, and she knew nothing of how to go around in there. When Mr. Wright tried to give her a brief rundown - kidnapping, genetic testing and all - Elise was a little skeptical. That wasn't supposed to happen, that was not right! Of all people, too. She refused to believe, thinking it all some elaborate joke. He then told her something along the lines of how she needed treatment and how it would be nice of Elise to check up on her. She wanted to know just what was going on, but first priority was getting Morgan to safety and hopefully back into her father's arms. There was no denying that whatever happened, Morgan was in danger.
He'd requested her sort of last minute. Something about seeing if she could give any kind of medical attention to the others (Others? She should have asked, she didn't, who were they?), but most importantly Morgan if she needed it. She was nervous. She wasn't exactly sure what she was supposed to do.
A stroke of luck, it was, really. Someone needed medical attention in the genetics building, something gone wrong, and she needed to replace their heart valve. It was on the same day. It was a long and intense surgery, it had taken a lot longer than she had thought it would take. It was late, very late at night, and it was only after she had stabilized the patient's condition and put them into intensive care that she was able to depart from the patient and go downstairs. She was in the elevator when she heard the first shot.
She ducked and covered and her heart was pounding. A wave of fear came pouring down on her, she didn't know what to do. There was a gunshot, and all she could hear now was the blood pumping in her ears. She knew this was adrenaline, she knew this was the fight-or-flight response, she knew that there were epinephrine interacting with the signal transduction pathways, and she was just trying to remember where exactly it was and trying to take her mind of off it, trying not to get so scared that temporary paralysis would set in.
Of course, that was when the elevator doors opened and thankfully she had moved to the side of the elevator door so she could hide behind something, and quickly pressed the close door button and proceeded to panic, panic and panic some more. She tried to breath deeply, she tried to remember all that medical training she had, and try to prevent herself from freaking out more.
In hindsight, she probably should've gone back up to the third floor where she was working, but for now she was content with being inside the elevator and waiting for silence to set in so as to reduce the chance of danger. She didn't think that maybe the guards would be dead, and she didn't think that she'd be in trouble with their potential killers. All she wanted right now was to try to calm herself and not emotionally impair herself - there would be enough of that with what was to come. _____
EDIT: AW CRAP I DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS SO LONG |

She had received and interesting request, go find some man's daughter and save her from the genetics lab. Although she agreed to help, she was not really planning on saving anyone, in fact her main goal was to find out why they had this women, and what they were doing to her. Most people they tended to us had no family or reasons to be searched for, made the experiments easier, so what made this woman so important? This job gave Levy the perfect excuse to check things out, she knew a few others would be there as well, so she would have a few distractions to work with. She was also prepared for breaking into such a well guarded building. She carried a full backpack on her back. With a few needed items, for example a device that would help her hack into key codes and computer locked safety boxes, alone with some other useful tools and a spare magazine for her handgun.
She did not worry about the camera's located within the building, between scrambling them and not really existing she had little worry for getting caught. She had a mental map of the first three floor's cameras and knew how to keep her face from them, which way to look and what not, she even wore a hat to hide her blonde hair. She noticed two people heading for the front door and decided to aim for the side, it really made little difference, but she rather not be seen walking in with other people, just in case.
After steeping into the side door Levy called out to the closest guard, the one farthest away from the two in the lobby. "Excuse me?" She spoke friendly and softly, as if she wanted to ask a question. This was to gain one guard attention while the other two were distracted. By what she had no clue, after all only a piece of the lobby could be seen from where she stood. Levy knew the first few floors well enough, visiting a small amount of times to give feed back information from the weapons building to the genetics building when there was testing between linking weapons and genetics. Funny that now she had a chance of seeing some old "friends" and maybe even getting the chance to kill them. That first gunshot that reached her ears as she was talking with the guard almost caused Levy to visibly sigh. Amateurs she was dealing with amateurs! Just the thought made her want to roll her eyes, but that gunshot was a perfect distraction. She bent as if ducking in fear so that the guard would turn and be distracted by what was happening in the lobby. The sound came from the front, probably near the front desk if she had to make a guess. If anything she at least could tell that the sound was from indoors and not outside.
As she bent her right hand went for the knife in her boot she aimed to take this guard out quickly, hopefully by doing a mercy and ending his life quickly. The blade was a precaution, she could have tried just snapping his neck, but due to the second guard in the lobby still free to set off the alarm she needed to do something, if she didn't kill him she could at least distract him. She would cut the neck of one while aiming her side arm at the other. Using her left hand she lifted her silenced handgun to point at the remaining guard and shot at him, she had decent aim, that was for sure, but the distance was a fair amount from the side entrance to the main lobby.
Action: Levy is trying to slice the neck of the nearest guard, while using his body as a shield, with her other hand she lets off one shot with her handgun at the guard that is not being shot at by Tobias. She hopes to hit him, or at least become a distraction so that Tobias (or one of the others) can finish him off.

ALTERED The first guard didn't even get a chance to react. The boy had asked a question and it was the last thing he could really process. His lab coat was more than enough to let let his guard down, the smart ones always asked annoying questions. It was as he glanced downward that the last thing the guard ever noticed was the noise of the gun. After that the only thing he could hear was silence. Silence would great him for as long as he lived.
[DECEASED GUARD AT FRONT DESK]
The guard heard someone come in from the front but knew it was not his time to do a round yet. He had another half our before the three of them would alter vantage points. The sound of the gun. Something was wrong. He heard someone call to him but it was lost on him. His body quickly felt the paint the hatted woman brought to him. He was pulled in front of her as he felt the pain of the knife enter his skin. He was dead before he could even react. He didn't even get a chance to fight back. He was dead at the hands of some unseen attacker. The blood continued to gush out his neck even as his body hung limp in her arms.
[DECEASED GUARD LEVY ATTACKED WITH KNIFE]
The third and last guard heard the sound of the gun. He easily turned on his heel. He drew his weapon. He saw two targets, one was a man jumping behind a desk and the other was covered in his ally's blood. He had a split second. Shoot. He had to shoot. Instantly shooting towards what he saw as a greater chance he shot at the woman. her gun went off as his did. The difference between the two people firing at each other was he was no where good enough to duel her. It hit his chest as his bullet had hit his now dead comrade. He was dying. He couldn't even think as his death came quickly. Darkness consumed him. He was dead before his body even hit the floor.

NO REST FOR THE WICKED ALTERED Tobias didn't even have time to react. His arm hurt from the recoil but he had to push forward. His body thrummed with energy as he immediately launched himself over the desk. Truth be told he had no idea if he had killed the man yet but he knew he had to get cover incase one of his comrades didn't come through. He didn't even know their names but presently he had no option but to press forward. It was as he heard the body hit the ground he knew he had succeeded. The man was dead, he didn't dare look at the mangled face but his pistol was still held tightly in his hands. He heard shots being fired and his heartbeat fluttered. Hopefully Emilia was safe or he would have failed her. Yes, he wanted answers but he didn't want the girl to suffer for his acts of reckless behaviour.
There was a moment of silence. It was long enough that Toby thought what was done was done. Slowly, he rose from his crouched position behind the desk. He saw the woman who had killed the other two guards. She was surrounded by a pool of blood and a body. Needless to say Tobias made a mental note not to piss her off. He didn't hesitate to push onward. They had to be quick or the system would go off. Tobias didn't even think to check any of the bodies. He had a pistol and that was enough for him. He also had his own blue access card so he wasn't concerned on that front either.
He knew that the elevator would only take him as far as the first 6 floors without trouble. That was also assuming that they hadn't triggered a lockdown yet. With a gruff voice he called out to the other woman as well as Emilia who should be entering the fray. "We can take the elevator up to floor six. After that we have to use the stairs."He unpinned his identification card as he spoke. He walked towards the elevator down a slight hallway. He would wait for his comrades as he pushed the door open button.

| Emilia cringed as she watched the woman dispatch the two guards with savage efficiency. Tobias's clean shot to the head seemed... less personal somehow. The way this woman slaughtered the guards made Emilia have second thoughts about this whole thing. These were still people, carrying out a job like everyone else. She knew what it felt like to lose a loved one all too well. The girl stared at the floor beneath her, thinking of the families these men would never be able to come home to.
The honk of a car in the distance brought her back to her senses. She shook her head and pushed open the door, feeling the warm air on her face. Splayed out on the ground in front of her were the three guards, slain in various ways by her allies. By the two sentries that the woman had killed Emilia noticed a few items and decided they may be of use later. It's not like the guards needed them any more. She stayed away from the man Levy had disemboweled for fear of losing her lunch, but decided the one with the hole in his chest was serviceable. By his side was the handgun that had been pointed towards Levy moments ago. She didn't really know what to do with it, but at the very least she might be able to scare someone with it. She knelt down by the man, avoiding looking at his face. The young blonde's fingers slipped underneath the weapon and she lifted it to her eyes. It was heavier than she expected. She had never held a gun before, and it sort of scared her. One wrong movement and she could find herself with chunks of metal in all the wrong places. She slipped it into her jacket, careful to keep her finger off the trigger. She'd have to get Tobias to show her how to use it sometime - that is, if they got out of here alive.
[GLOCK 22 ACQUIRED]
On the man's belt she noticed another tool of some sort. Emilia undid the clasp and pulled out what she recognized to be a stun gun. She couldn't see herself using it. If anyone got that close to her she may as well be dead. None the less, she undid the man's bloodied belt and slipped off the carrying pouch. Anything was better than the dull steak knife. It fit snugly in her jacket pocket. She stood up and took a final glance around before wandering over to Tobias, discarding the knife by her side.

i'm vulnerable, so vulnerable, i am not a robot It was silent afterward. One loud gunshot. Not that she could really hear anything through the thick metal door. But why weren't the guards doing anything? Then again, Elise hadn't actually looked out of the elevator, she was too panicked to do that, she was just struggling to safety. Although she quite overlooked the fact that she would be visible when someone tried to elevator. Hopefully it wasn't someone who would kill her. Hopefully she would make it out there alive. Really wasn't a good idea to die.
It was too late when she came to the conclusion that she could go hide out in the third floor and wait whatever it was that happened out. Because the elevator doors opened, and she stifled a shriek with her lab coat because she was so scared, so scared. She ducked and covered, she didn't look out and she couldn't help but whimper. He had a gun, he had a gun and she didn't want to get shot.
She had a scalpel to defend herself, but did she really want to stick it in someone's neck? It would be such a horrible thing, to have someone bleed and choke on their own blood. Elise probably didn't even have the heart to do that. So she took another approach.
"I'm here to help, really, just don't kill me please." It... wasn't really a convincing argument. They'd probably think she was actually an enemy, she was acting awfully suspicious. It never occurred to her at the moment that these might be the others Mr. Wright had mentioned. If she had actually thought about it, it would've been obvious.
She was just so scared, y'know, with the gun and all.

If this was a movie Levy would surely be the one getting paid the big bucks, after all at the moment she looked to be the reason why at least a piece of this group would live to see tomorrow. That is if she decided to stick with them, it did pass her mind to to take the blue card key from one of the dead guards and leave the group to their own devices, but that would just be rude wouldn't it? Still she was not fully convinced on staying with them, not just yet. Still after letting go of the body she had used as a shield she still took the blue access card that was hanging off his jacket and placed it in her pocket.
[BLUE ACCESS CARD ACQUIRED?] - Her theft is 4, and I don't know if a card would need anymore stats to take, unlike a gun, cause every one has cards.
Even if she did not use it on this trip, keeping it for future use could be of help, although she would have to get the name attached to it changed, after all, after today the owner would be found no so alive anymore. She knew some people, so had no worried about getting it wiped later. (Amusing, that with how strict the gov is that they have each card key set per person, so that they know who's been going where with their cards?) Levy slipped her gun away for the time being, she had a feeling that she wouldn't need it right away and had more important things to distract her hands with.
She pulled out a small cloth and used it to wipe off the blood that was on her knife, she wanted to keep the blade clean, just in case she was need it again for later, no use in dulling the blade. She walked over to where the others were gathering around the elevator. He hear a voice that sounded familiar, although she had no clue who it was until she got closer and saw the doctor in a slight panic. A small sigh escaped her lips as she pushed pass Tobias and entered the elevator. "She's harmless, good to see you again doctor." There was a small hint of sarcasm, but she was still pleased to see at least someone she slightly knew on this little trip they were all taking.
Levy leaned against the far wall and slipped her free hand into her backpack, pulling out her signal blocker just long enough to see if it was working. Either the range was short, or each couple of floors had separate camera systems. Either way, this new information did not help with how Levy felt about the other floors they would have to enter. "I have the first three floors jammed, either my range on this thing is shit and we'll have to wait for use to get to the next few floors to jam the others, or.." She paused for a second to get what she was saying to sink in. "We'll need to figure out another way to keep the remaining floors from going on lock-down, more guards and trouble is not what we need. Other than myself, you all seem a bit.. wet behind the ears for work like this, and I don't play babysitter." Well at least she was being honest right? Honestly was a good step, in a way, at least she wasn't telling them that she planned on at least using one of them as a scapegoat.
(Still unsure of how some things work, so i can change my post if something doesn't work.)

NO REST FOR THE WICKED ALTERED Tobias approached the elevator when the doctor seemed to appear out of nowhere. It was probably the fact he knew he might die tonight that his senses were a little slow. Her plea mixed with the confirmation of her innocence made Tobias' gun arm quiver as he held it by his side in a forced composure. She was no enemy and he did not want to spill unnecessary innocent blood. Too many people might die under his search for answers tonight. He bowed his head, he didn't trust his voice at the given moment as it might give out on him so instead he took a moment to collect his thoughts. He was always so strict with his professionalism he didn't really see a point in formalities. He didn't want to give out his name or see these people again. They would all die if they didn't succeed. If they pulled this off he didn't want to know anything about them in fear of them being caught in the aftermath. He side stepped the woman in front of him and stepped into the elevator. There was a slot where it was obvious a card could be swept.
He didn't wait for the others approval to head up the floors. He had never been past floor six but today would be a surprise for everyone he figured. Tobias took a shaky breath as he hoped they would all live through this. He heard the competent woman speak to the group. Tobias frowned slightly before he spoke. "I am afraid the chances are against us, once we reach the sixth floor it is a matter of minutes before we are detected." Tobias frowned. He had never seen the building go into lockdown but apparently there was a first for everything. He assumed lockdown meant they would meet more guards and be met with an increased presence of trouble. They guards would be better equipped and they would no longer have the element of surprise. As long as they stuck together they should be fine. Tobias wished he wasn't smart enough not to believe in religion.
In that moment he might have prayed but instead he forced a small, sad smile to play across his lips. His white lab coat was not yet covered in the blood of his victims but he still had time to truly find the blood that would cover his hands. Emilia. He had brought a simple girl into this. He was out of his league but the show must go on. He swiped his identification card in the allotted machine. The first six floor buttons lit up with a faint blue light. He looked at his comrades before pushing the sixth floor. The next time the doors opened they would probably have to run to find a staircase and try to make it further up before they died.
Toby didn't want to die today... or tomorrow.
"I propose once the doors open we make a hard right. There should be a staircase going up the rest of the building. It will mean we trip the system a tad bit early though but should save us time in the ascent."
Tobias knew he was a little out of his element but at least he had once worked in this very building. He could be useful. Hopefully the other woman saw that and didn't kill him for being so... 'wet behind the ears'.

| Emilia stepped into the elevator after Tobias, staring down at the woman sobbing on the floor. She didn't look like she posed much of a threat, but now she had seen their faces. Emilia wondered how they were going to get themselves out of this. Levy may have disabled the cameras on the first few floors but once they ascended past the third floor they would be on camera and the building would go into lockdown. In the unlikely event they made it through the dozens of trained guards that surely awaited them and rescued the girl, what would they do? The authorities would hunt them. This certainly wouldn't improve the government's opinion of her. She tried to think of something else but it was all that was on her mind.
Emilia watched as Tobias swiped the card, the elevator creaking a little before coming to life and beginning its ascent into the unknown. She pulled the handgun out of her pocket and examined it. It was heavier than she expected but not unmanageable. She wasn't sure how to reload it but hoped that it wouldn't come to that. She wasn't sure how many bullets the weapon held but had no intention of firing it anyway.
"So. Who are you?" she inquired to the woman on the floor as she slipped the weapon back into her pocket and crossed her arms.

i'm vulnerable, so vulnerable, i am not a robot Elise wasn't sure what it was, but there was something very very wrong with this picture. First of all, she hadn't expected to see that woman again, and something must be going on to have someone from the weapons testing place to be here of all places. Also, the one guy had a gun but also a lab coat. And then there was this teenaged girl. All here. In this elevator. Away from what she assumed were dead people. She could put two and two together, this man had a gun and there was a gunshot, there was no way security would have let him through unless they were dead.
Lovely picture she painted herself there. Only she wished it weren't the case. "It's lovely to see you again too, Miss." She wasn't sure if she was on a name basis with Lana yet. She was also unsure if the woman who looked kind of exasperated right now would appreciate her name getting out. Elise was still a bit unsure of what was happening, to be honest. They were going up, yes, but it was still a mystery as to what they were trying to accomplish. They as in them, the other people, not herself. She, at least, knew what she was doing here.
It took her a moment. And then another. These were the other people that Mr. Wright mentioned! They had to be! They were going up, weren't they? At least now Elise had a semblance of what was going on, but she was still a little confused. That tended to happen when no one explained things to her. So she took it upon herself to listen (and get more confused), and made the decision that she was just going to follow Lana unless Lana told her not to.
Of which she was still embarrassed and ashamed about. Lana caused Elise a great amount of embarrassment just looking at her. God, she'd made such a fool of herself in front of her, it was a surprise she hadn't fainted over how hot her cheeks were right now. She'd mostly resigned to looking down at their feet. "I'm a doctor - Elise. Who are you guys, if we're asking questions all around?" She already knew one person, but the rest was a mystery to her. _____
