24 Male Non-discriminatory Missions lowly thief Purge | DeAngelo, Reynard Early life was an interesting concept inside the Biome, especially when you were born and raised in the Gamma Sector. The people weren't exactly friendly, and the buildings were practically ruined, but that didn't mean that life HAD to be miserable. Rey found his calling at a young age, entertaining people by practicing and performing his magic tricks for the neighborhood folk in hopes that he can bring at least a little bit of joy to everyone's lives. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. Sleight of hand was a common technique he'd use to fool people, adding to the illusion that he could control matter, reorganize molecules, and teleport objects. Now as a man, I envision this street-rat working for himself, earning his way in the world however he feels fit. At times, he'll a thief-for-hire, while other times, he'll find himself collecting things that were lost for people too busy or lazy to find them themselves. The interesting thing about Reynard isn't his history... it's his future. I plan for him to no longer work for money, but instead, gaining payment in information and secrets. He collects people... their habits, their pasts, their stories, anything that he may be able to use later. I intend for him to gain a reputation amongst all of the Sectors, though only few actually being able to place his face. His name will be of legend, almost as if he doesn't really exist... but instead, a collective of the people, the anonymous voice of every person in the Biome. As for the long term, Rey will follow the bread crumbs, learning all that he can in hopes of discovering what his father was chasing, for what purpose, and for whom he was working. Trust If you want Reynard to trust you, you have to be worthy of being trusted. And in return, you will be able to trust him. If he does the job... he gets paid, simple as that. Stiff him and you will wish you'd never been born, because, though he may not have any dirt on you right now, it won't be long until he gets it. He won't just attack your reputation, he will destroy it, devouring every flavor of your humanity until you are left a hull of flesh in the gutter of the Gamma Sector. Treat him well and you may find a very useful trade of information in the works... or, perhaps even a free job here and there. Honesty is a strong part of trust and he holds both dear. If he accepts a job, he will do everything in his power to finish it, however, if he finds a way to kill two birds with one stone, he won't pass on a better deal. IE: If he is paid to expose a politician, he will certainly get it done, however, if that politician wishes to seek revenge on Reynard's previous client, a new deal will most definitely be made. Fun Fact: He hates to lie... but sometimes, lying is important to finish a job. Misdirection and speed... those are the key to any great magic trick. Minor Paranoia It's no surprise that a thief doesn't want to get caught, so, it shouldn't be any surprise that he's a little cautious. There is no time that you will find Reynard without a pocket full of "Plan B's". In a pinch, his pursuers will find themselves clouded in a thick smoke, or maybe blinded by a quick flash, or perhaps even choked by a strong order. Some gadgets he steals, and some he creates using things he would find throughout the streets of the Biome, nothing too fancy, just basic concoctions taught to him by his father before his death. His dad believed that if one were to face the Void, one should be prepared to escape. Sadly, his father didn't, and Rey didn't plan to fall into a similar fate. Self-trained to escape, he grew more familiar with blending in. However, he also became a little edgy when unexpected circumstances would arise. Still, he knows how to keep his cool until he's safe... then, once in the clear, he releases his excitement in a fit of ramblings, jerks, and twitches. Morality In these times, morals don't go a long way, and although most people don't seem to have any, Rey does. Now, this sense of morality isn't the traditional belief of the word in which he is a good guy who does no wrong. No, his morals are a bit murky. They cannot be explained, but there is a continuity to his morality. He refuses to kill (people), even if propositioned to do so by a wealthy contributor. He will first make aware this rule before accepting a job, and if the client refuses this stipulation, Rey will not accept the job. He will sometimes steal from the rich and give to the needy, but the needy is not always who you expect it to be. It is not the hungry kid in the street or the lady begging for a shower. Sometimes, the needy is the man up top who has to make a difficult decision for the Biome, or the girl on the pole who doesn't know any better. Lucky Always being one for getting in trouble, Reynard has managed to escape every situation unharmed, and in a society such as this one, it's very rare to do such deeds unscathed. For most people, these actions results in disfiguring scars and crippled bones, but Rey only finds himself with a few scratches and bruises. If anyone else were to jump from the tallest buildings, they would find themselves a puddle at the base of the structure, but not Rey... somehow, he always finds a way to survive by crashing into every ledge, awning, and decoration or even a well timed jump into a cart full of cloth or hay. Pros/Cons Reynard is quick and flexible, outrunning most, but he can't take a hit. Due to his speed and quickened reflexes, he can avoid many attacks, but if his assailant manages to land a hit, Rey is out for the count. His physical strength isn't bad when it comes to climbing or running, but when it comes to lifting, he's not very accomplished. This results (when on the offense in a fight) in small hits that do little damage, so, he uses speed to direct his hits to the most useful areas before making a hasty retreat. Confidence is a number 1 thing, but sometimes, confidence turns to arrogance. There is a fine line between the two, and this line is often danced. He often bites off more than he can chew, making some jobs a bit more difficult than others. While he is good at improvising, he has poor planning skills and doesn't always take every aspect of a job in to consideration. Glimpse March 14th "I've never eaten spaghetti without a fork, yet, I can imagine just how it would taste. A fork, yes, a fork is a privilege that not everyone has but one in which everyone should deserve a right. There is no no difference between this woman in the dirt and that man in his office. Both have their strengths and both have their weaknesses, yet while she clenches for the soggy noodles, he uses gold to wrap his strands, dangling them above his fat face while she tries to find the cleanest bite to eat. Is that fair? Oh, fair... fair is a fairy tale whispered in hush tones by the men and women who write them, without bias, without judgement, seeking only to bring them into existence by revealing their indiscretions to the entire populace without so much as to destroy the basis from which they arise. ...so yeah... I call this trick 'Spaghetti Hands'," and then I took his wallet. He chased me, of course, but I was already lost in the woven death of the city. How would he learn if not from me? I'll be expecting that fellow to keep a weary eye towards me shall we ever meet again, but what is life without a little risk? I can't imagine those sticks up there in the Alpha to find life being anything more than a few petri dishes full of scum. They poke and prod and change and do all of these sorts of things that a brain like mine just won't fathom. It hurts me to think that them 'intellectual types' have any sense of purpose, of accomplishment. Then again, I've never been one of them before, so, what do I know. I'm just a man wondering what this is all about. There's got to be more than this... more than waiting to be told what to do. I've found the messages in their secrets, but they still don't add up. I want more... I want to know it all. What was my father after? What did he know? End Entry. Quick Back Story When he was fifteen, his father ventured into the Void in hopes of retrieving an object that held a great value that would maybe aid his family in finding a better, more wealthy life, however, his father never returned and was declared dead after only a few days. Without his father, Reynard's mother fell into a deep depression and killed herself not even a year later, leaving Reynard an orphan. After an officer came to recruit him, Reynard declined the offer, using the excuse that he was more interested in going to school, though it was just an excuse so that man would leave him alone. Quickly, Rey decided to live on the streets, hiding in the darkest corners of the Biome, sleeping wherever his head would lay, eating whatever he could manage to steal. This led to an improvement in his magic trick talents, often using them as a distraction to steal a watch, sometimes a wallet, without anybody noticing. His pickpocketing grew to be almost flawless, and after learning from his common hobos, lock-picking became a skill he practiced nearly to perfection. Obviously, this lifestyle involved a LOT of running and hiding, his victims sometimes catching on before he would make an exit, and after many beatings, he learned how to run. Chases started off clunky, sloppy, and overall, clumsy, but over time, he learned a free-form of escape, something that was called parkour in the olden-days. His alias is Walls because the walls have ears... and Reynard hears everything that happens in the Sectors, and not just his own. People love to talk, so, when trying to find information, he takes advantage of that, keeping his input short. Silence makes people uncomfortable, and uncomfortable people fill that silence by talking, and talking people tell secrets. Body language give more away than you can even imagine. |
