March 7th 9:42am It'd been a few hours since the sun had risen, the light shining through the glassless holes that were once called windows with intentions of waking him from a deep sleep, but to its dismay, Rey was already awake. Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise. He was getting up plenty early, however, he found that he was only healthy... his lack of wealth and wisdom being blamed by his late nights. In every opening of this room stood a pot, and growing from each pot rose some sort of plant. Tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, carrots, onions, everything food stuffs, nothing else. After all, in a world like this, there wasn't time to be wasted creating pretty things. Some containers were bigger than others, while some seemed strategically placed in shadier parts than the rest. Rey dipped a cup into a large container than stood stationary on a balcony, obviously placed there to catch the water created by the artificial rain generators within Biome II. Each cup was carefully carried meticulously, caution taken as to not spill a drop, to each plant, spilling just enough water into each vessel to wet the roots and continue growth. The conditions within this Sector were not optimum for plant growth, but with a little bit of work and attention, he expected a decent harvest soon enough. Rey didn't know much about plants, only that they needed dirt, sunlight, and water, but with previous attempts, he'd grown confident enough to keep his room-sized garden alive, and, in turn, he assumed it'd eventually keep him alive as well. This room was high in the sky, a corner office to what was probably one of the most important office buildings in the Sector once upon a time when the district wasn't a step away from death. The whole landing was garbage, deteriorated from years of inactivity before Rey adopted it. Now, it was a giant apartment facility, housing a good portion of Gamma's residency, each room within belonging to somebody else, sometimes an entire family. These people lived rent free, and though most were nearly homeless, it was their own piece of the pie... rent free. It didn't have the commodities of the Alpha-Freaks. There was no electricity, no running water... just a roof over the head and a door to keep locked. Reynard took an extra precaution. He didn't have a door at all. Instead, he'd bricked it over, sealing them out, and himself in, to an extent. Only he knew the ways in and out, and he liked it that way. In fact, from the hallways, you'd never even know there was a room behind that portion of wall... perfect for hiding from the interesting people, such as the soldiers and other unkind folks looking for him. Sure, his balcony and windows were exposed, but nothing made his balcony any more suspicious than all others, and due to the height of the building, people looking from below wouldn't have the proper angle to see inside. So, there he was... watering his babies... not a care in the world. Just him, his plants, and his thoughts keeping him busy while he mentally planned his day. Surely, somebody needed a thief... |
